We have journeyed in nature through millions of years to become who we are.
Yet in the blink of an eye our relationship with the natural world has been upended. Constraints and balances have slipped away. Every child can now be what was once reserved for eagles. Distance is no longer measured by the power of muscle or the winds and tides. In hours we holiday as tourists on the opposite side of our planet.
But, in the end we are still flesh and blood governed by the same laws regulating all life. Like all living things we need an environment that sustains and nourishes us. A place to dwell. To be at ease and in quiet moments reconnect with our origins. Without such a place of nurture life is not the same. What is a child’s life without a garden to explore?
Each day I am grateful for the privilege of being alive in this wondrous age, yet I remember the words of Socrates from 2400 years ago…..
“He is richest who is content with the least, for content is the wealth of nature”
